This is a technical position working under the direction of the Information Technology Section Manager. The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications that support the city s operations. The Senior Software Engineer will work closely with other members of the IT division to ensure that software applications are efficient, reliable, and meet the needs of the organization. The Senior Software Engineer will also provide technical leadership and guidance to junior members of the software development team.
Qualifications
In-depth knowledge of the operating characteristics, capabilities and limitations of an electronic data processing system and its peripheral equipment. Advanced knowledge of service analysis, design, and the program requirements for conversion of mechanical and clerical processing to computing environments. Thorough knowledge of low level computer languages. Experience with software development tools such as Git, Jenkins, JIRA, or similar. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to consult and negotiate with departments on the design, development, and implementation of new software computer systems. Experience with agile software development methodologies is a plus. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Ability to understand and program in an internet/web environment. Ability to effectively use and manage a central code repository. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with administrative officials and other employees. Ability to assist others in IT in solving advanced technical problems. Plan and organize work to meet changing priorities and deadlines. Requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or related fields, or equivalent experience. This position also requires four years of experience in computer programming and systems analysis on the current City computer system or its equivalent. Maintains a valid Utah Driver s License. Will observe all traffic regulations, follow City policy and be a safe, courteous and responsible driver while operating City vehicles. Must wear seat belts and make certain that other passengers are in seatbelts when the vehicle is in operation.
Pay and Benefits
Individual starting salary will depend on qualifications, certifications, and experience. The City also provides a comprehensive and competitive benefits package.
