Job Description

As a Librarian, you will supervise and manage the school library center. Provide services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, and using information to solve problems. Serve as a teacher, materials expert, and adviser to ensure the library supports instructional and related extracurricular programs of the school.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instruction

  • Provide group instruction and individual guidance to students in K - 4th grade during Excellence block to help them locate on-level reading books and engage with books appropriately, develop an affinity for reading, hone literacy skills for reading and analysis
  • Consult teachers on appropriate reading support strategies for each grade level, class, and student to support literacy instruction and development

Library Programs

  • Serve as information resource for library services and other whole-school literacy initiatives (i.e. Accelerated Reader Program, national literacy observance days, etc.)
  • Effectively plan school library programs to meet identified needs
  • Assist in preparation and implementation of Scholastic Book Fair

Management

  • Manage acquisitions, processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of resources (books)
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement

Student Management

  • Carry out discipline in accordance with KIPP Texas Public Schools student code of conduct and policies
  • Interact with students to promote positive attitudes toward school library

Communication

  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with Excellence team members, school lead teachers, supervisors, students and families
  • Communicate with stakeholders in accordance with KIPP Texas Public Schools policies

Qualifications


Qualifications

  • Valid Texas Librarian or Learning Resources Specialist certificate or endorsement (preferred)
  • Knowledge of library science
  • Ability to instruct and manage student behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Effective computer skills

Mental & Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Effective management and public relation skills
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, walking, standing, bending, stooping, and occasional lifting of 40+ lbs.
