Job Description

The School Librarian works in collaboration with the Digital Instructor and Digital Curriculum Designers to support teachers in enhancing their curriculum with new materials. The School Librarian creates an environment that motivates students to read and increases student access to library materials.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with teachers to support and enhance their curriculum development
  • Developing and updating district policies regarding materials selection, circulation, and acceptable use of library materials
  • Encourage the use of instructional technology to engage students and improve learning
  • Manage the print and digital materials available through the library
  • Supervise and evaluate the library paraprofessional
  • Research and suggest new materials to add to the library
  • Create a library space that is inviting to students and represents their backgrounds and interests
  • Maintain active membership in professional associations
  • Cooperate and network with local libraries and agencies to increase library access in the community
  • Use data to analyze current reading trends and support teachers and administrators in planning ways to improve school-wide literacy
  • Collaborate with Students Services and Heads of School on Read Across America month and other reading initiatives
  • Hold workshops or information sessions for students, staff and families on the best ways to utilize the library resources

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree (library studies or a related field)
  • Massachusetts Library Certification (required)
  • Commitment to the goals and mission of LFDCS
  • Experience working with a diverse community
  • Excellent organization and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Skilled with the use of technology and digital instructional platforms
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with a wide range of individuals
