The Smithville Area Fire Protection District serves the City of Smithville and 112 square miles of Clay and Platte counties on the northern border of Kansas City, MO. SAFD does not operate the transport ambulance, only BLS first response with fire apparatus. No ambulance duty!
Hiring requirements include:
19 years of age,
Certified Firefighter 1 and 2,
Missouri licensed or Nationally Registered EMT or Paramedic (those with National
Registry must be able to obtain an EMT or Paramedic license from the State of Missouri),
An acceptable driving record,
An acceptable background after a thorough investigation
A clean drug screen,
Ability to pass a medical/fit for duty physical
NO CPAT OR ENTRANCE EXAM REQUIRED
Canidates attending the fire academy are encouraged to apply, final offer of employment dependent on obtaining all required certifications.
The Smithville Area Fire Protection District is heavily involved in the community we serve. SAFD provides fire protection, technical rescue (swift water and ice rescue), operations level hazardous materials, basic life support (non-transporting), and a full range of public education/public relations functions. Ambulance transport is handled by a separate EMS provider.
SAFD works on the 48 on / 96 off schedule. Annual pay for Firefighter-EMT is $48,255.48 to start. SAFD pays 100% of the health insurance premium for the employee and 50% of the premium for family coverage. Insurance includes health, dental, vision, and short-term disability. The District also provides a Lagers Level 7 retirement benefit.
Vacation leave, sick leave, and bereavement leave are also provided. The District pays a monthly educational stipend for employees who have attained an Associate ($125), Bachelor ($225), or Master’s Degree ($325). Hourly incentive for Fire Apprattus Operator. SAFD has no residence requirement.
