The City of Wayne is currently accepting applications for the purpose of establishing a Fire Fighter eligibility list. Wayne Fire Fighters are expected to protect life and property through controlling, extinguishing, and preventing fires, and providing emergency medical service (EMS) under conditions which require strenuous physical exertion. Some time is spent in routine maintenance of equipment and apparatus and routine care of facilities, as well as participating in public education. In addition, they are required to attend, comprehend, and pass annual training requirements necessary to maintain required certifications and licenses.

Salary Range: $ 45,849.05 to $ 70,372.96 per year with a 5-year step increase to top pay with overtime opportunities.
Full Benefit package includes Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, Life Insurance, MERS Defined Benefit 2.25% multiplier with a 2% COLA, 457 Plan with City Contributions of 7%, 10-year vestment with a 25-year retirement, Food and Clothing Allowance, Holiday Pay, Longevity Pay, and Paramedic Licensure Compensation.

The City of Wayne offers lateral transfers for up to 5 years of full-time service credit

Some Essential Functions of this job include:

· Promptly responding to EMS, Fire, and other emergency calls.

· Providing EMS to injured patients which includes advanced life-saving techniques, administering medications, and following advanced life support (ALS) procedures.

· Correctly connecting and handling the hose and nozzle, directing water stream, and properly using equipment to create openings in building or vehicles for ventilation at scenes of fires.

· Accurately writing reports and records.

· Participating in training drills, demonstrations, and public education activities

· Safely driving and operating Fire and EMS Vehicles.

· Effectively communicating and listening to commanding officer’s orders, including the use of two-way radios for communication.

· Conducting station tours to interested individuals or groups.

· Work under the supervision of the daily commanding officer.

Minimum qualifications include:

· Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

· Ability to frequently stand, walk, sit, crawl, reach, climb, squat. In addition to lift/carry, push/pull anywhere from 10 to 100+ lbs.

· Applicants must be a citizen of the United States (Birth Certificate or Naturalization Papers required at time of application).

· Possession of current, valid Michigan driver's license and an excellent driving record with no more than three (3) points on current driving record.

· High school diploma or GED (presented with application). Along with:

State of Michigan Advanced Life Support/Paramedic license within a year of hire, and current successful completion of Fire Fighter I and II

OR

Current State of Michigan Advanced Life Support/Paramedic license, and Successful completion of Fire Fighter I and II within one year of hire.

In both instances, successful completion of the Conference of Western Wayne (CWW) Written and Physical Agility Testing completed by hire date.
